About Fine and Dandelion

Fine and Dandelion began during the long months of covid lockdowns in Melbourne. There was more time, and less to fill it. Walking became part of a daily routine. The natural world felt close again; small things noticed that might otherwise have been missed.

Weeds. Dandelions.

They carried memories of childhood. Of closing our eyes, making a wish and blowing them into the wind.

Only now I didn’t want to let them go.

What started as a challenge to find a way to preserve dandelions grew into something more.

In the early days, I created under the name Naturometry, selling at local markets and collectives.

I worked with different overlooked botanicals; agapanthus, Queen Anne’s lace, wild fennel, thistles and grasses.  But it was always the dandelion that drew me in. There is something special about dandelions.

Each of my pieces is made slowly, by hand, using foraged and homegrown dandelions. Loki, the Dandy Dog, has been trained to take on the role of sourcing assistant.  No flowers are taken in bloom, so the bees can gather what they need. Only small amounts are taken from any one place, and many are now grown at home to keep things sustainable.

Over time, I found that preserved dandelions are strong enough to travel. That made it possible to share them more widely, and Fine and Dandelion began to grow beyond markets into an online space.

It also felt important that this space not be mine alone.

To truly celebrate the dandelion, Fine and Dandelion now welcomes the work of other dandelion creators and makers.  If you have a product that you would like to list here, please dop me a line.
